假使⋯⋯就 (if...then)
含义
The pattern 假使⋯⋯就⋯⋯ (jiǎ shǐ...jiù...) means 'if' or 'supposing that' and introduces a hypothetical condition with its resulting consequence. It is the most formal variant among the 假如/假若/假使 trio.
假使 carries the strongest literary and formal register of all the 'if' conjunctions in Chinese. The component 使 means 'to cause' or 'to make,' giving 假使 the nuance of 'supposing one were caused to be in this situation.' It appears predominantly in official documents, legal texts, academic arguments, and formal essays. In spoken Chinese, it is quite rare and may sound stiff or old-fashioned. The result clause uses 就, 则, or 便. While 假如 and 如果 are suitable for both speech and writing, 假使 signals that the speaker or writer is deliberately adopting a formal, elevated register. It is fully interchangeable with 假如 in meaning but not in formality level.

起源与历史
假使 has roots in classical Chinese, where 使 functioned as a causative verb meaning 'to make' or 'to let.' Combined with 假 (suppose), it formed a highly formal conditional marker. Its usage is documented in historical texts from the Han dynasty onward, and it remains the most literary of the modern conditional conjunctions.
