PayPay
意味
Japan's dominant mobile payment app, owned by SoftBank/Z Holdings, used for QR code payments.
PayPay launched in 2018 and quickly became Japan's most-used mobile payment through massive marketing and 20% cashback campaigns. The name itself has become almost synonymous with mobile payment in Japan, similar to how 'Venmo' is used in the US. The characteristic 'ペイペイ♪' sound at checkout is instantly recognizable. It's used colloquially as a verb too — 'PayPayで送って' (send me via PayPay).
