意味

A conjunction expressing the speaker's contempt, frustration, or criticism about someone's contradictory behaviour. Equivalent to 'even though' or 'despite' with a negative, accusatory nuance.

くせに is a concessive conjunction that carries strong negative emotion — typically contempt, irritation, or blame. Unlike のに, which can express neutral or sympathetic surprise, くせに always conveys that the speaker finds the contradiction objectionable. It is almost exclusively used to criticise others, and using it about oneself sounds unnatural unless expressing self-deprecation. Because of its confrontational tone, it should be avoided in formal or polite contexts. The pattern connects to verbs and adjectives in their plain forms, and to nouns via の.
