Meaning

Hospitality; entertainment; reception; the spirit of selfless, anticipatory care for guests.

An important cultural concept in Japan. While もてなし refers to hospitality in general, おもてなし has become globally associated with Japanese-style service excellence — the anticipation of guests' needs before they are expressed.
