元来
Meaning
Originally; essentially; by nature. Indicates something is true from the very beginning or by inherent nature.
An adverb used to refer back to the original or inherent nature of something. Often appears when contrasting a current state with an original one (元来この場所は森だった — this place was originally a forest) or when describing someone's innate character. Similar to もともと but more formal and literary.
