総代理店
Meaning
General agent; sole distributor; exclusive distributor. A single company holding the exclusive distribution rights for a product or brand in a given territory.
A business and trade term for a company granted exclusive rights to import, distribute, or represent a foreign or outside brand within a specific market. 総代理店契約 is an exclusive distribution agreement. Historically significant in Japan's post-war trade structure, where these arrangements controlled imported goods. Distinguished from 一般代理店 (non-exclusive agent).
