閾値
Meaning
Threshold; threshold value. The minimum level a stimulus or variable must reach to trigger a specific response or effect.
A key concept in neuroscience (action potential threshold), toxicology (minimum effective dose), engineering (trigger levels), and machine learning (classification cutoffs). 閾 is a rare kanji, so 閾値 is sometimes written in hiragana as しきい値 or しきいち in technical documents. 閾値を超える means 'to exceed the threshold'.
Examples
- 神経細胞は閾値を超える刺激を受けたときのみ、活動電位を発生させる。 A nerve cell generates an action potential only when it receives a stimulus that exceeds the threshold.
- システムの誤作動を防ぐため、センサーの閾値を慎重に設定する必要がある。 To prevent system malfunctions, the sensor threshold must be set with care.
- 環境への影響が閾値を下回る場合、その物質は安全とみなされる。 If the impact on the environment falls below the threshold, the substance is considered safe.
