Reading へいそん
Romaji heison
Kanji breakdown 併 (hei) — together, combine; 存 (son/zon) — exist, be
Pronunciation /he.i.so.ɴ/

Meaning

Coexistence; co-occurrence; existing simultaneously. Describes two or more entities or phenomena existing together at the same time.

Used as a verbal noun with する (併存する). Common in academic, medical, and philosophical contexts. In medicine, refers to comorbidities. In philosophy, addresses conflicting ideologies coexisting in the same society. Similar to 共存 (kyōzon, peaceful coexistence), but 併存 is more neutral and implies mere simultaneous existence rather than harmony.
