Meaning

A conditional phrase meaning 'given that' or 'if it is the case that,' used to indirectly present a factual situation as a reason that makes a particular response unavoidable or natural.

とあっては adds a conditional layer to とあって. While とあって simply states a reason for an observable outcome, とあっては implies 'if that is the situation, then one has no choice but to…' or 'given such circumstances, it is only natural that…' It highlights that the stated condition leaves the speaker or the subject with little alternative. It often pairs with expressions of obligation, inability to refuse, or inevitability. It is more literary than everyday spoken Japanese and appears frequently in formal writing and narrative.
