意味

A conjunction indicating that what is stated in the preceding sentence is the reason or cause for what follows. It translates as 'and so,' 'therefore,' or 'that is why.'

それで connects two sentences where the first provides the reason and the second states the natural result or consequence. Unlike そして (simple continuation) and すると (unexpected result), それで specifically signals a cause-effect relationship. It is very common in everyday conversation and storytelling. The speaker presents the first event as the reason that led to the second event. それで sounds natural and conversational, and it can also be used as a prompt to invite someone to continue their story: それで？(And then what happened?). It should not be used when the relationship between sentences is merely temporal without causation.
