一事无成

Chinese HSK 7-9 Vocabulary Chinese ★★ 2/5 neutral yī shì wú chéng
병음 yī shì wú chéng
한자 분석 一 = one (single — emphasising the totality of failure); 事 = 口 + 一 + 彐 + 口 (pictographic — hands holding a writing tool with a mouth, suggesting affairs/tasks); 无 = simplified 無 (originally pictographic — a dancing figure, by extension 'nothing/without'); 成 = 戊 + 丁 (axe/weapon + nail — striking to completion)

아무 성과도 거두지 못하다

A four-character idiom (成语) used critically or self-deprecatingly to describe unproductive periods, failed ventures, or wasted potential. Often appears in self-reflection, cautionary speeches, or literary descriptions of frustration. More emphatic than simply saying 没有成就.
