Meaning

To have accomplished nothing; to achieve not a single thing. Describes a situation where all efforts have ended without any meaningful result, often over a significant period of time.

Don't Say

• 他一事无成但很快乐 — 一事无成 is inherently negative and self-critical; pairing it with contentment sounds contradictory without further explanation; if the person is at peace with simplicity, use 平淡知足 or 无所求而自在 instead
