Meaning
A suffix of endearment; used after names of children, close friends, or cute things.
An affectionate honorific suffix derived from さん. Primarily used for young children, close female friends, and sometimes pets or cute characters. Using ちゃん with someone you are not close to can be considered rude or overly familiar. おばあちゃん (grandma) and おじいちゃん (grandpa) are fixed expressions.
