Meaning

In the middle of; in the midst of. Right in the process of doing something.

A noun used to express that an action is currently in progress. Follows the pattern Vている/Nの + 最中(に). More emphatic than ている alone, stressing that the action is happening right now. Note: when read as もなか, it refers to a traditional Japanese wafer cake filled with bean paste — a completely different meaning.
