仲裁
Meaning
Arbitration; intercession; mediation. The act of intervening to settle a dispute between parties.
A noun and suru-verb for stepping between conflicting parties to help resolve a dispute. Used in both formal legal contexts (仲裁裁判所, arbitration tribunal) and everyday situations (友人同士の仲裁, mediating between friends). Common patterns include 仲裁する (to arbitrate), 仲裁に入る (to step in to mediate), and 仲裁を依頼する (to request arbitration). Similar to 調停 (choutei, conciliation) but 仲裁 often implies the mediator has more authority to make a binding decision.
