地域活性化
Meaning
Regional revitalisation; community development. Efforts to reinvigorate and sustain the economic and social vitality of local areas.
A policy buzzword combining 地域 (region) and 活性化 (activation, revitalisation). Japan's central government has pursued 地域活性化 through various programmes — including the 地方創生 (Regional Revitalisation) policy launched in 2014 — to counter rural depopulation and economic stagnation. It encompasses tourism promotion, telework encouragement, and local industry development.
