Meaning

A conjunction indicating that someone or something is very far from an expected state or action. It means 'far from,' 'let alone,' or 'not only... but' in English.

どころか emphatically denies an expected state and presents the reality as being at a much more extreme level — either far worse or far better than expected. The pattern often works in two directions: negating a mild expectation and presenting a stronger negative reality, or negating a modest expectation and presenting a surprisingly positive one. For example, 上手どころか天才だ (far from just being good, he's a genius).
