~てもいい (permission)
Meaning
A phrase which expresses permission or concession, indicating that it is acceptable to do something. When used as a question, it asks for permission.
てもいい combines the て-form of a verb with もいい to express that an action is permitted or acceptable. When used as a question with ですか, it asks for permission. The more polite form is てもよろしいですか or てもかまいませんか. The negative counterpart てはいけない or てはだめ expresses prohibition. For い-adjectives, -くてもいい is used, and for な-adjectives and nouns, でもいい is used. In casual speech, ていい without も is also common and carries the same meaning.
