~くらい・ぐらい (about, approximately)
Meaning
A particle that indicates an approximate quantity, extent, or degree. It can express rough estimates for amounts, time, and distance, as well as a minimal or trivial degree of something.
くらい and ぐらい are interchangeable, though ぐらい is slightly more colloquial. When following numbers or counters, it indicates approximation (五人くらい — about five people). When following verbs or adjectives, it expresses degree (泣くくらい悲しい — so sad that one could cry). Unlike ほど, くらい can carry a nuance of triviality or minimum threshold (それくらい自分でやりなさい — you should at least be able to do that much yourself). くらい can also appear in the pattern ~くらい...はない, equivalent to ほど...はない for superlative-like comparisons, though ほど is more natural in this use.
