~だけのことはある
Meaning
A phrase expressing an evaluative comment that something lives up to its reputation or that the effort, cost, or background has been worthwhile. It means 'it is worth the fact that' or 'it justifies the fact that.'
だけのことはある is used when the speaker evaluates a situation and concludes that a quality, result, or outcome is commensurate with or justified by the effort, reputation, or background involved. It is similar to だけあって but places slightly more emphasis on the evaluative conclusion — the speaker is making a judgment that the investment or characteristic has paid off. It can follow verbs, nouns, and adjectives. The negative form だけのことはない expresses the opposite — that something does not live up to expectations. Learners should note that this pattern inherently involves the speaker's subjective assessment and is most natural when the speaker has personally verified the quality.
