稟議
意味
Internal approval process; the circulation of a proposal through a hierarchy for collective sign-off.
A distinctly Japanese organisational process in which a proposal is drafted by a lower-level employee and circulated upward through a chain of approvers, each adding their stamp. 稟議書 (ringi document) and 稟議を回す (to circulate for approval) are standard corporate expressions. The process emphasises consensus-building over top-down decision-making, but is often criticised for creating slow and diffuse accountability.
