近頃
Meaning
Lately; recently; nowadays. Refers to the current period or recent times.
An adverb and noun indicating the recent period up to the present. Slightly more formal and literary than 最近 (saikin, recently). Often used to comment on trends or changes: 近頃の若者 (young people nowadays). Can carry a nostalgic or critical tone when comparing past and present. Common in both spoken and written Japanese, though 最近 is more frequent in casual speech.
