強がる
Meaning
To pretend to be tough; to put on a brave front; to bluff; to act strong despite feeling otherwise.
A Group 1 (godan) intransitive verb formed from 強い (strong) with the suffix がる (to show signs of, to act as if). Describes behaviour where someone conceals vulnerability behind a facade of strength. Often used sympathetically, implying the speaker sees through the act and feels empathy.
