風潮
Meaning
Trend; current; tide. A prevailing tendency or movement in society or opinion.
A noun describing a social or cultural trend or prevailing mood. Originally a maritime term (tide/current), now used almost exclusively in its figurative sense. Carries a slightly critical or analytical nuance — often used when discussing societal shifts the speaker views with some concern or detachment. Common collocations include 風潮がある (fuuchou ga aru, there is a trend), 最近の風潮 (saikin no fuuchou, recent trend), and 風潮に流される (fuuchou ni nagasareru, to be swept along by a trend).
