教化
Meaning
Edification; moral instruction and enlightenment. The process of guiding people toward ethical, spiritual, or intellectual improvement.
A noun (also する verb) with dual contexts: in general use, moral education or civilising influence; in a Buddhist context, the propagation of teachings and spiritual guidance of practitioners. In criminal justice, it is used for prison rehabilitation programmes (教化活動). The term has Confucian roots and can carry paternalistic overtones, implying that those doing the educating possess superior moral knowledge.
