変数
Meaning
Variable; parameter. A mathematical symbol representing a value that can change within a given context, formula, or programme.
Fundamental to algebra, calculus, programming, and statistics, 変数 denotes a quantity that can take on different values. In programming, it refers to named memory locations storing data. Contrasted with 定数 (constant), which remains fixed. In statistical modelling, 変数 encompasses both independent and dependent variables, making it essential to nearly all quantitative scientific disciplines.
Examples
- この方程式では x が独立変数、y が従属変数として機能する。 In this equation, x functions as the independent variable and y as the dependent variable.
- プログラムで変数を宣言する際には、適切なデータ型を指定する必要がある。 When declaring a variable in a programme, it is necessary to specify an appropriate data type.
- 実験では温度を変数として設定し、反応速度への影響を測定した。 In the experiment, temperature was set as a variable to measure its effect on reaction rate.
