生い立ち
意味
One's upbringing; personal history; background. The circumstances and environment in which a person grew up.
A compound of the archaic verb stem 生い (growth, from 生いる meaning to grow up) and 立ち (rising, from 立つ). Refers to the environment and experiences that shaped a person during their formative years. Used in biographical writing, interviews, counselling, and literature — especially when explaining why someone became who they are. The hiragana and kanji form 生い立ち is standard.
