Kodan; traditional Japanese narrative storytelling. A performing art in which a storyteller recites historical tales from a lectern, using a fan for dramatic emphasis.

A distinct Japanese performing art (話芸, wageI — spoken arts) in which the 講談師 (performer) stands at a raised lectern (釈台) and narrates dramatic historical or military tales, striking the lectern with a 張り扇 (張り扇, a flat paper fan) for emphasis. Unlike 落語, which focuses on comedic character dialogue, 講談 centres on dramatic historical narration. It flourished in the Edo period and was revived through national recognition as an intangible cultural heritage.

例文
