完毕
Meaning
To be finished; concluded; done. Formally signals the completion of a task, process, or activity.
A formal, declarative term typically used to announce the end of a specific process — a meeting, an inspection, a report, a procedure. More rigid and official-sounding than 完成 (to complete) or 结束 (to end). Very common in military, bureaucratic, and procedural contexts: 报告完毕 (report concluded), 检查完毕 (inspection complete), 任务完毕 (mission accomplished). In contrast to 完成, 完毕 does not take a direct object.
Examples
- 全体人员撤离完毕,现场已确认安全,请指挥部收到。 All personnel have evacuated — the scene has been confirmed safe. Command post, please confirm receipt.
- 发言完毕,感谢各位的聆听,如有问题欢迎提问。 My remarks are now concluded. Thank you all for listening; questions are welcome.
- 系统更新完毕,请重新启动设备以使新版本生效。 System update complete — please restart your device for the new version to take effect.

Origin & History
Compound of 完 (complete, whole) + 毕 (to finish, to conclude; entirely). 毕 originally depicted a hunting net being drawn closed — the task is 'netted' and done. 完毕 intensifies the sense of finality and formal completeness.
