氛围
Meaning
Atmosphere; ambiance; mood; environment. The prevailing feeling, tone, or character of a place, situation, or social context.
Used to describe the intangible but perceptible mood or character of a place, event, relationship, or era. Can be physical (工作氛围), social (友好的外交氛围), emotional (紧张的氛围), or cultural (浓厚的学术氛围). Overlaps substantially with 气氛, but 氛围 is slightly more formal and can describe broader or more enduring environments.

Don't Say
- 氛围 and 气氛 are largely interchangeable, but 气氛 is more colloquial and situational while 氛围 is slightly more formal and can describe broader enduring environments — avoid forcing a distinction where none is needed
