多 + Verb (do more)
Meaning
多 placed before a verb means 'do more of' something or 'do something more often.' It is commonly used in advice, encouragement, or suggestions to increase an activity.
This pattern is the counterpart of 少 + Verb. When 多 precedes a verb, it functions as an adverb meaning 'more' rather than its adjective meaning of 'many.' The pattern is very common in daily conversation, especially in health advice, parental guidance, and friendly suggestions. It can be combined with 一点 after the verb for a softer tone: 多吃一点. Unlike the more formal 更多地, 多 + Verb is direct and natural in spoken Chinese. The pattern often appears in imperative contexts but can also be used in statements describing habitual actions.
