幕開け
Meaning
Opening; beginning; the dawn or start of something significant. Literally, the raising of a theatre curtain.
From the world of traditional Japanese theatre (歌舞伎, Noh), where 幕開け marks the literal rise of the curtain and the start of a performance. By extension, it is used as a vivid metaphor for the beginning of any significant new phase — a new era, a new project, a new chapter of history. 幕開けとなる is a common journalistic phrase meaning 'marks the beginning of'.
