超伝導
Meaning
Superconductivity; the phenomenon in which certain materials exhibit zero electrical resistance and expel magnetic fields when cooled below a critical temperature.
A noun describing one of the most remarkable quantum phenomena in condensed matter physics. Superconductors are classified as Type I or Type II based on their behaviour in magnetic fields. Applications include MRI magnets, particle accelerators, and maglev trains. The search for room-temperature superconductors remains an active research frontier.
Examples
- 超伝導体は臨界温度以下で電気抵抗がゼロになるという驚くべき性質を持つ。 Superconductors have the remarkable property of zero electrical resistance below their critical temperature.
- 超伝導を利用したリニアモーターカーは強力な磁力で車体を浮上させる。 Maglev trains utilizing superconductivity levitate the car body with powerful magnetic force.
- 室温で機能する超伝導材料の開発は物性物理学の長年の目標だ。 Developing superconducting materials that function at room temperature has been a longstanding goal in condensed matter physics.
