沼課金
Meaning
Spending money endlessly on a hobby, game, or obsession you're addicted to — sinking into a spending swamp.
沼課金 combines 沼 (swamp, used metaphorically for something you sink deeper into) with 課金 (in-app/game spending). It describes the state of being so absorbed in a hobby that you keep spending without limit — knowing you should stop but unable to. Originally used for gacha games, it's expanded to any hobby spending spiral: figures, idol goods, trading cards, cosmetics, or VTuber super chats. The 'swamp' metaphor captures how each purchase pulls you deeper.
Examples

- 推しのグッズで沼課金してるけど、集め始めたら止められないんだよ。 I'm swamp-spending on merch for my fave, but once you start collecting you can't stop.
- 沼課金だって自覚はあるけど、コンプしたいから仕方ない。 I'm aware it's swamp-spending, but I want to complete the set so it can't be helped.
