恋活
Meaning
Actively seeking a romantic partner — similar to 婚活 but focused on finding a boyfriend or girlfriend rather than a spouse.
While 婚活 is marriage-focused, 恋活 is about finding love and a romantic relationship without the immediate pressure of marriage. It's often used by younger people in their 20s who want a partner but aren't ready to think about marriage yet. Dating apps often market themselves as either 婚活向け (marriage-oriented) or 恋活向け (dating-oriented).
Examples
- 結婚はまだ早いけど恋活はしたいんだよね。 Marriage is too early for me, but I do want to start looking for a relationship.
- 恋活と婚活って何が違うの?って聞かれるけど、気持ちの問題だよ。 People ask me what the difference is between dating activities and marriage hunting, but it's really a mindset thing.
