~ことはない
Meaning
An expression meaning 'there is no need to' or 'you don't have to.' It is used to reassure someone that a particular action is unnecessary.
ことはない attaches to the dictionary form of verbs and conveys that there is no need or reason to perform the action. It is often used to comfort, reassure, or advise someone who is worried or about to take an unnecessary step. For example, if someone is panicking before an easy test, you might say 心配することはない (there is no need to worry). It differs from なくてもいい, which is a neutral permission statement ('you don't have to'), whereas ことはない carries more of a persuasive or reassuring nuance — 'there's really no reason for you to do that.' It should not be confused with the literal たことはない (have never done).
