造詣
意味
Deep knowledge; profound expertise; scholarship. A thorough and well-developed understanding of a subject, especially in arts, literature, or scholarship.
Almost always appears in the construction 〜に造詣が深い (to have deep expertise in ~). It implies not surface-level familiarity but a cultivated understanding built over years of devoted study. Used to compliment someone's profound knowledge in a specific area — typically art, music, literature, history, or philosophy. Rarely used for scientific or technical domains, where 専門知識 (senmon chishiki) is preferred.
