世話物
意味
Domestic drama; contemporary-life play. A genre of kabuki or puppet theatre depicting the everyday lives of common people in the Edo period.
One of the two major kabuki genres, the other being 時代物 (jidaimono — historical dramas). 世話物 focuses on the lives, loves, and conflicts of merchants, artisans, and townspeople, using colloquial language and plots involving scandal, love suicide, or financial ruin. Chikamatsu Monzaemon was the foremost author of this genre, and his domestic tragedies are still performed today.
