一帆风顺
Meaning
Plain sailing; smooth all the way; everything proceeding without obstacles or setbacks. Used to describe an endeavour or journey that goes entirely as hoped.
A four-character idiom (成语) with a nautical origin. 一帆 = a single sail (unfurled and moving); 风顺 = the wind is favourable. Together they evoke a ship sailing smoothly with the wind behind it. Used as a good wish (祝你一帆风顺) or to describe a project or phase of life that went smoothly. Positive in connotation.
