要不是
Meaning
If it were not for; had it not been for. Introduces a counterfactual condition — the situation would have been different without the stated factor.
A counterfactual conjunction, typically followed by the thing that prevented a negative outcome or enabled a positive one. The main clause often uses 就、早就、恐怕 to signal the hypothetical consequence. Equivalent to English 'if it hadn't been for' or 'but for'. Common in both speech and writing.
