品位

Chinese HSK 7-9 Vocabulary Chinese ★★ 2/5 neutral pǐn wèi
Pinyin pǐn wèi
Hanzi breakdown 品 = 三个口 (three mouths — evaluated quality); 位 = 亻 + 立 (person standing — rank or level)

Meaning

Taste; aesthetic refinement; the level of cultural or aesthetic discernment demonstrated by a person, work, or environment.

品位 is used for personal taste (他很有品位) and the quality level of products, art, and spaces. In mining, 矿石品位 = ore grade. Note: 品位 (level of refinement) vs. 品味 (the act of appreciating/savouring) — similar but subtly distinct.

  3. 真正有品位的人,从不将奢侈品的堆砌视为身份象征,而是通过内在修养彰显自身的气质与涵养。 People with real taste never treat piling up luxury goods as a status symbol; instead, they show their presence and refinement through inner cultivation.
