Meaning

Don't Say

  • 普通人 is neutral and descriptive — do not use it as a euphemism for 'inferior' or 'unambitious'; 平凡人 has a similar meaning but carries a more literary/reflective tone; 老百姓 is more colloquial and specifically refers to common citizens in relation to the state
