Meaning

Monk's staff; Buddhist monk's walking staff. A long metal-ringed staff carried by Buddhist monks.

A traditional Buddhist implement used to announce the monk's presence to small insects to avoid stepping on them. In Chinese martial arts fiction (武侠), 禅杖 is a fearsome weapon wielded by martial monk characters such as 鲁智深 in Water Margin.
