To stand (up); to rise to one's feet. One of the most basic verbs for body position.
A Group 1 (godan) verb with a つ stem. Conjugated as 立ちます in polite form, 立って in te-form. Used both for the action of standing up and the state of being upright. Pairs naturally with 座る (to sit) as opposite actions.
