ストーリー
Meaning
Stories — the ephemeral photo or video posts on Instagram, LINE, or other platforms that disappear after 24 hours.
ストーリー (often shortened to ストーリーズ on Instagram) refers to the disappearing content feature popularized by Snapchat and adopted by Instagram, Facebook, and LINE. In Japan, ストーリー is extremely popular as a low-pressure way to share daily moments without cluttering one's permanent feed. The ephemeral nature makes it feel more casual and authentic than regular posts. Replying to someone's ストーリー is a common way to start conversations.
Examples
- ストーリーにあげたら友達からすぐ反応きた。 I posted it on my story and got a reaction from a friend right away.
- 24時間で消えるからストーリーに載せとこう。 It disappears in 24 hours, so I'll just put it on my story.
- 毎日ストーリー更新してる人ってすごいよね。 People who update their stories every day are really something, aren't they?
