本垢
Meaning
One's main or primary social media account, as opposed to alt or sub accounts.
A compound of 本 (hon, 'main/real') and 垢 (aka, 'account'). 本垢 is the account that represents your primary online identity — typically the one your real-life friends, family, or colleagues know about. It is distinguished from 裏垢 (secret alt) and サブ垢 (secondary account). Users are generally more careful about what they post on their 本垢 since it is linked to their public persona.
Examples
- 本垢では言えないことを裏垢に書いてる。 I post things on my alt that I can't say on my main account.
- 本垢のフォロワーに知られたくない趣味がある。 There are hobbies I don't want my main account followers to know about.
- 間違えて本垢で投稿しちゃってめっちゃ焦った。 I accidentally posted on my main account and totally panicked.
