意味

Substantive; noun-class word in Japanese grammar. Refers collectively to nouns, pronouns, and numerals that can function as the subject of a sentence.

A traditional Japanese grammatical term contrasting with 用言 (yōgen — predicates: verbs and adjectives). 体言 do not conjugate and can be directly followed by case-marking particles. 体言止め (taigen-dome) is a rhetorical technique ending a sentence or poem with a 体言, creating a sense of arrest or emphasis.
