愈来愈
Meaning
More and more; increasingly; progressively. A formal variant of 越来越, expressing a continuous increase in degree or intensity.
Functionally identical to 越来越, but 愈来愈 has a more literary, formal, or classical register. Commonly seen in written Chinese, academic prose, formal journalism, and formal speeches. In Taiwan, 愈来愈 is generally preferred over 越来越 in formal writing. Appears before adjectives and verbs to indicate progressive change.
