焰火
Meaning
Fireworks; pyrotechnic displays. Refers to decorative fire effects used in celebrations and public displays, as well as the visual phenomenon of flames and fire.
More literary and formal than the colloquial 烟火 (yānhuǒ), which also means fireworks but is used more loosely for everyday fire, smoke, and the warmth of human life (人间烟火). 焰火 specifically emphasises the visual splendour of the flames and is the preferred term in formal announcements and artistic descriptions of fireworks displays.
