无济于事
Meaning
Of no avail; futile; to serve no purpose. Describes an action or measure that fails to address, solve, or improve a problem in any meaningful way.
Emphasises that an action, though perhaps well-intentioned, is wholly ineffective in the face of the actual problem. Used to dismiss half-measures, superficial fixes, or belated responses. Commonly paired with contrasting solutions: 这样做无济于事,真正有效的办法是… (Doing this is futile; the truly effective approach is…). A formal, somewhat literary expression.

- 事已至此,后悔是无济于事的,当务之急是尽快找到切实可行的解决方案。 At this point, regret is of no use—the urgent priority is to find a practical, workable solution as soon as possible.
